speedometer of a car

Automatic transmissions rely on a series of sophisticated and complex parts in order to power a vehicle forward. Unlike a manual transmission, which contains a driver-operated clutch, an automatic transmission contains a part called a torque converter. This transmission component is located between the engine and the transmission. Using the principles of a centrifugal pump, the torque converter is able to absorb the power that is generated by the turning engine. When the engine is on and the car is at a stop, the torque converter allows the engine to idle smoothly. Once the driver steps on the accelerator, the torque converter sends power from the engine to the wheels.
